How to Host Your Own ALTA Exam Day?

Partner schools are invited to host a Global Seal of Biliteracy Exam Day of their own by offering nationally available ALTA Exam (Writing & Speaking) at a suitable time in their location.

Here is the process:

STEP 1.    Contact us. Angela Hasheva (ahasheva@absa-association.org), ABSA President & Assessment Supervisor, to let us know of your interest.

STEP 2. Choose dates/times. Decide on which dates you want to offer the assessments. The test is timed. You should allow one-hour for students to complete. Students will complete the writing first, then take the oral part afterwards.

STEP 3. Request the ALTA tests for your students. That could be done through the form below. Add dates and locations when you want to host the assessment. You can also extend registration at your site to students not visiting your school.

STEP 4. Have your students personally register for the exam. That could be done here.

STEP 5. Consider payment process.  Each test cost $98 per student (additional $98 for the speaking part of the test is required to be collected separately).

STEP 6. Hold Global Seal of Biliteracy Assessment Day. ABSA will provide you with a final registration list before the test day and will also send you confirmation email reminders to the students who registered for that test day at your location.

STEP 7.  Receive letters and certificates from ABSA. Within about two to three weeks after the Assessment Day, ABSA will receive the test results from the testing companies and the certificates from the Seal of Biliteracy Board. These will be mailed to the school principals to distribute to the students.

Additional Information about ALTA – Provided Proctored Writing Test and Proctored Oral Language Test

ALTA Writing Assessment last for one hour and must be strictly proctored by a non-Bulgarian language speaker. Tests are emailed as PDF files by ABSA to the principal to print for each student for the test day.  ALTA WPT’s completed tests must be mailed back to ABSA.  The ALTA Proctored Writing Tests should be scanned and emailed right after the exam directly to ahasheva@absa-association.org for further processing.

The process for arranging ALTA Speaking and Listening Assessment, an interview by telephone with a native speaker.

The exam needs to be scheduled for a specific time and place for each student being interviewed. You can schedule a number of oral exams at one day and use your school’s phone so that multiple students can be tested over several hours. Once the date and time are confirmed, the school principal is responsible for sending money to ABSA for it.

Proctoring from a non-Bulgarian language speaker is straightforward: the proctor makes the call, then hands the phone to the student for the interview.

For more specific information about these options, be sure to contact Angela Hasheva, ABSA President & ALTA Assessment Supervisor at (425) 200-5428 or ahasheva@absa-association.org
